Wonderful sparkling clear and calm weather today, perfect for motor boating. This morning we shot out of Red Bay at ten knots with the outgoing tide and into Sumner Strait. We carried the tide down to Port Protection where I tied up to a public float. Port protection is a small place, just a base... Continue Reading →
FRIENDLY COFFMAN COVE
I have just had a great day in Coffman Cove. What a great place and nice people. Everyone has time for a chat and the locals are very relaxed. For the first time I feel as if I am in Alaska. The day opened dry and no rain today, its been cloudy all day but... Continue Reading →
A PLEASANT SURPRISE!
Weather turned out well today, a bit of rain and drizzle in the morning but then it cleared up and I could feel the suns warmth through the clouds. The sun didn’t get to be serious or cast any shadows but it was there in the background, behind the clouds. The forecast wind didn’t arrive... Continue Reading →
WHALES AND SEALIONS
I woke up this morning at four with light shining into the cabin and the patter of raindrops overhead. It started raining again last night and has continued all day without respite. It’s hard to believe I was stripped off in the sun only a couple of weeks ago. This morning I went for a... Continue Reading →
SLOWDOWN DEER CROSSING AND CLEARING INTO USA
A beautiful calm morning at Foggy bay. There were nine boats anchored overnight but most had gone by the time I heaved anchor at six thirty. We changed clocks yesterday to Alaska time and now it gets light at four in the morning. For a change it was not raining this morning. The day remained... Continue Reading →
ENTERING ALASKA USA
It rained again last night and continued intermittently all day today. I feel like a human wick. Can’t remember the last time I felt the warmth of the sun. But, today for the first time this voyage we had wind from the right direction. Last night I heard a high pitched eagle squawking. A large... Continue Reading →
PRINCE RUPERT – SOCIAL SCENE
Rain pissed down all day today, heavy in the morning and light in the afternoon and now what a local refers to as Scotch Mist in the evening. A busy day doing chores as this is the first port call for a couple of weeks. Garbage disposal, two trips to the launderette, ship chandlers, Library... Continue Reading →
PRINCE RUPERT – THIRTY YEARS ON
I woke up this morning and it was still pouring with rain, damp and cold. No hurry this morning and no point in getting out of a warm bed so I rolled over for another hour kip. When making tea this morning I got a drip of water on the head, there is a small leak on... Continue Reading →
HUMAN CONTACT AGAIN
Curlew Bay proved to be a nice quiet anchorage and I had a good sleep. A bit of a late start today, we are heading up to the village of Hartley Bay and it’s not far so no hurry. The wind was very light from the south and we sailed under the jib slowly up... Continue Reading →
OVERCAST, WET, COLD AND DAMP
A really grey and overcast morning and raining but nice and calm. We caught the tide through Jackson Narrows this morning and proceeded up Jacksons passage – sounds weird. The highlight of today was a call at the village of Klemtu.
